After averaging nearly 327 yards per game rushing in 2015, the Midshipmen are only averaging 251.5 yards on the ground this year. That's still good for 14th in the nation, but when considering the team averaged over 325 yards per game rushing in each of the past three seasons, Reynolds' skills are sorely missed. In the last game the Midshipmen played, Navy was shut down on the ground in a 28-14 loss to Air Force, rushing for only 1.5 yards per carry. They dug themselves a 20-point hole and had to throw the ball 31 times. Navy had thrown more than 20 times in a game only once since Week 2 of 2012.

Navy has been enjoying a good run at home with 12 consecutive wins at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium dating back to 2014. That winning streak also includes a win against Pittsburgh in last season’s Military Bowl, which is now played in Navy’s home stadium. This week, however, Navy will face its best opponent to make its way to Annapolis since hosting No. 23 Pittsburgh during the 2008 season.

  

Houston has answered every challenge without a problem so far with the run defense being every bit as terrific as the outstanding offense. Ward’s the signature star, and he’s going to be efficient and effective against a Navy defense with no pass rush whatever, but the Cougar linebacking corps will be the dominant force by getting behind the line before the Midshipmen ground game can get started.
