Minnesota is coming off two consecutive close conference losses that
have hampered the program's quest for a West Division title. the Maryland Terrapins No. 33-ranked offense (37.4 PPG) against a
Minnesota Golden Gophers defense that ranks No. 45 at 23.6 PPG. The
Maryland Terrapins passing attack has averaged 153 yards per game, less
than the Minnesota Golden Gophers give up through the air (232.6 YPG on
average).
Minnesota head coach Tracy Claeys stated after the Iowa loss, "You can always come up with excuses, but you have to find a way to get it done." And it looks like the Gophers will have to get it done on the road without senior quarterback Mitch Leidner is expected to miss this game because of a concussion he suffered last week. Minnesota Golden Gophers own the league's No. 37-rated front 7 in terms of stopping the run, allowing 136 yards per game when on the road. Maryland, on the other hand, rates No. 3 this week in generating rushing yards at home.
