Huskies suffered a 42-27 defeat at the hands of South Florida to drop to
3-4. Quarterback Bryant Shirreffs continues to provide most of the
offense for UConn, combining for nine total touchdowns.
Scott Frost’s team has to go on the road for two more weeks with Houston coming up next, but it’s got three home games to follow.Huskies depend on Shirreffs, and that can be a problem. Without his 231 rushing yards, UConn has gained only 659 total rushing yards this season. The majority of those belong to Arkeel Newsome, who must become a bigger threat.
UConn offense isn’t exploding, either, but the defense went bye-bye on the road in blowout losses to Houston and USF, giving up 42 points in each game. The defensive front will stop the UCF ground game that hit a brick wall last week against Temple – after doing a nice job throughout the year – and with no deep passing game to count on.
